Yup. Knew it.

I’m gonna need a smaller race car. And a buggy.

Nice write-up, very interesting!

Also, those louvres are extremely awesome, never knew they looked so pronounced from the back.

Flavien tells us about fatality rates in four countries. The one that has no speed limits on some of its motorways has the lowest death rate. Interesting.

Not new really... Speed limits (on freeways, they are usefull elsewhere) ARE bullshit. They make people bored and less attentive and those who go too fast are more focused on cops hiding somewhere than on cars around them... Also, speed is only the 5th most important factor in deadly crashes (15% of accidents in France on the freeway are due to speeding). Respect of safety distances, sleepyness, alcohol...etc are all more problematic than speeding. Yet, speeding is the best way to make money so...

In all fairness it is important to compare death rate on the autobahn vs deathrate on the autoroute for exemple... France and Germany are about equal when it comes to that. Speeding is the leading factor of deadly accidents in Germany. Sleepyness and boredom are the leading cause of mortality in France.

I like the article very much. One thing you called a toll highway a freeway... If it has a toll isn’t it a highway or a turnpike, but not a freeway?

I’m not sure where the etymology of the word “freeway”comes from and if it means that it’s supposedly “free”, but all freeways as we know them elsewhere have toll, along with with certain highways and turnpikes...

I think freeways are called like that because they have no intersection, stop lights and so on... I don’t think it has anything to do with tolls...
